About This Song[]
In April 1963 The New Christy Minstrels, a large-ensemble folk group, released Ramblin', an album which included the song Green, Green', written by band members Barry McGuire and Randy Sparks. The song ending up charting at Number 14 on the Billboard charts, the group's first Top 40 hit, and reached Number 3 on the Adult Contemporary chart. Green, Green was the only charting single from the album Ramblin', which sold over a million copies and was certified as a Gold record[1], in no small part due to the popularity of Green, Green.
- ↑ Since 1958, the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) has officially awarded artists and groups gold records for singles and albums which crossed thresholds in sales, adding platinum and later diamond. Currently, a record needs to sell 500,000 units to be awarded Gold, a million for Platinum, two million for Multi-Platinum, and ten million units for Diamond.

(Note: these are the lyrics from the original song, by the New Christy Minstrels, not the translation of the Japanese version, which is different.)
Green, green, it's green they say
On the far side of the hill
Green, green, I'm goin' away
To where the grass is greener still
a-Well I told my mama on the day I was born
"Dontcha cry when you see I'm gone"
"Ya know there ain't no woman gonna settle me down"
"I just gotta be travelin' on"
a-Singin'
Green, green, it's green they say
On the far side of the hill
Green, green, I'm goin' away
To where the grass is greener still
Nah, there ain't nobody in this whole wide world
Gonna tell me to spend my time
I'm just a good-lovin' ramblin' man
Say, buddy, can ya spare me a dime?
Hear me cryin', it's a
Green, green, it's green they say
On the far side of the hill
Green, green, I'm goin' away
To where the grass is greener still
Yeah, I don't care when the sun goes down
Where I lay my weary head
Green, green valley or rocky road
It's there I'm gonna make my bed
Easy, now
Green, green, it's green they say
On the far side of the hill
Green, green, I'm goin' away
To where the grass is greener still
To where the grass is greener still
To where the grass is greener still
To where the grass is greener still
